Faith-Based Activities

Weekly School Masses

St. John Vianney students attend a School Mass every Friday morning. The student choir, The Vianney Voices, performs during these masses. Each week, a different grade takes responsibility for the readings. In addition, student musicians are invited to perform during these Masses. The Mass always pertains to the values of our school and the character building aspect of life at St. John Vianney. Toward the end of the school year, the Kindergarteners will do the Mass readings.

Holy Communion

Our Catholic 2nd Graders prepare for the sacraments of Penance and First Holy Communion. As students learn about God’s plan of love and mercy, they begin to understand that these sacraments are God’s gift to us and that they too are part of God’s loving plan. For a list of important Communion dates by parish, please refer to the Calendar.

Confirmation

Our Catholic 8th Graders will prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation that will more perfectly bind the child to the Church, making them enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. As true witnesses of Christ, they are more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed. For a list of important Confirmation dates by parish, please refer to the Calendar.

Vianney Voices
Students in 4th to 8th Grade may become members of the student choir, The Vianney Voices.
The Vianney Voices perform during school masses as well as at an annual Christmas Concert.
For more information on how to sign up your student for Vianney Voices, please contact
Ms. Bev McDevitt at bevmcdevitt@msn.com.

Altar Serving

SJV students in 4th to 8th Grade have the opportunity to altar serve during school masses, as
well as for their home parish. Please contact your respective parish for details.

Disciples of the Month

Each month, the teachers nominate one student from their class that exemplifies a virtue. These “Disciples of the Month” are recognized at a school Mass, presented with a certificate and featured on the Disciple bulletin board by the Main Office.

Prayer Partners

Every middle school student is paired with a student in an elementary grade. Throughout the year, the Prayer Partners participate in community service projects with their younger students. 7th Grade students paired with Kindergarteners accompany them in the annual Walkathon and Hallloween parade as well as sit with them during Masses. This program helps to foster an older/younger student relationship.

May Procession

May Procession is a beautiful tradition at St. John Vianney! Students in all grade levels celebrate Mary during her month with a procession into the church. A May Court honors Mary with flowers. Our 2nd and 8th Grade future graduates are recognized for their completion of their holy sacraments.

Rosary Group

The Rosary Group meets several times a year after school from 3:00 to 3:30pm. All students are welcome; Preschool children must be accompanied by an adult. Students meet immediately after school in the Grotto located between the church and the Main Building to pray the rosary together. In the event of rain, participants will meet in the church by the Our Lady statue. Please watch your PIE for specific dates on when the Rosary Group meets.

Rainbows
Rainbows is an internationally-based program for students who are dealing with change in their family life.  Death and/or divorce of a parent are often reasons for students to seek small group meetings for discussion. Confidentiality and friendship are the building blocks of Rainbows. Facilitator is Mrs. Linda Borosky, Coordinator is Sister Laura.
