Community Outreach
St. Patrick's Day Parade
SJV has consistently walked in the city's largest (and nation's oldest) parade on St. Patrick's Day. SJV students and families of all ages dress and celebrate the "wearin' o' the green" in March. Post-parade, our school community is invited back to the Parish Activity Center for complimentary refreshments, entertainment and socialization among the families.
In 2014, 6th Grader Keelin Gallagher won first place in the Allentown St. Patrick's Day Parade poster contest. In 2012, SJV 6th Grader Julie Dinh was the parade poster contest winner while her classmate Sophie Sarnitsky was runner-up. For 2013, SJV student poster winners are Olivia Le (2nd Place), Noelle Boucher (3rd Place) and Chloe Pauls (Honorable Mention). In the past, SJV has also walked in Allentown's Halloween Parade as well as September's city-wide 250th Anniversary Parade.
Dogtag Program
St. John Vianney Regional School’s unique "Dogtag" program encourages SJV students to "Do One Good Thing (And Generously!)" From writing letters or drawing pictures...or just donating small, inexpensive items to a chosen community center, SJV students learn early on how to give back to their community. The Dogtag community service activities are developed to benefit not only those near to us, but often reaches to far away places. To date, our students have collected items for area food banks and written letters to overseas soldiers.
Women's 5K Classic
The women and girls of SJV (along with supporters) have also been present at the Lehigh Valley's Women's 5K Classic every October. Whether running or walking, these ladies have represented SJV on the Sole Sisters team in an effort to help raise funds and awareness about breast cancer. Following the event, participants are invited to a complimentary brunch.
"Rex-cycling" Environmentally Green Program
SJV students actively particpate in reducing their carbon footprint in our world by recycling not only glass and metal, but also paper. Students in both buildings rotate the responsibility of collecting and removing the trash from the Main and Annex Buildings, fostering a sense of responsibility.
